Valve tune-up!
Just finished a complete re-adjustment of the valves a couple of days ago! The machine shop that had put the head together had suggested that the valve clearances be re-checked after a few hundred miles. So I went and got a valve clearance gauge and about a half-day later, all clearances had been checked and re-adjusted to 0.25mm (only three valves actually needed adjusting).
I also put in a new fuel filter, accompanied by a bottle of Red Line fuel injector cleaner in the tank. Hopefully it'll help clear up the little "cough" I get when blipping the throttle from idle. This also happens during a down-shift, which makes me think it might be the idle regulator valve perhaps...
During the fuel filter change, I noticed that the line that runs air back into the tank for ventilation had a pinched rubber connector (I'm guessing whoever did the work couldn't quite figure out how to route the small hose and just stretched and thereby kinked it shut). This, I'm pretty sure, was what has thus far been causing such a strong vacuum to build in the tank that it would not only hiss loudly but actually "pop" when I opened the gas cap on an empty tank!! Let's see what happens at the next stop at the gas station...
Just started noticing that the door lock on the driver's side sticks, so I've sprayed some WD-40 into it (not ideal but until I get the real spray lubricant...). If it doesn't help, I'll have to start locking it from the passenger side... Ahh, the petty joys of re-building...
Next up, the replacement of the "gas shock" that holds up the hood and the bolt that will make my AC compressor work again! Stay tuned!
