Pictures of rear suspension rebuild
Ok, so it hasn't been "soon", but here, finally, are the pictures of the rear suspension as it was being upgraded. I should mention at this point that the car is finally DONE!!
I have yet to take pictures of the front suspension, but that should happen "sooner" than last time since I need to take the front wheels off anyway to re-check the torque on the main bolt points, mainly for my paranoia's sake, Liesel has got her first-ever (to my knowledge!) autocross coming up on August 20th! So, without further ado:
Rear suspension supported by jackstand (still under the car)
Passenger side of suspension with coil spring removed
Rear end with suspension removed from car
Rear exhaust section brackets (the rear exhaust section had to come off for this rebuild)
Complete rear suspension (removed from the car)
Jack supporting rear suspension. The unit is so well balanced that it is in complete balance if you support just the differential.
Closeup shot of a driveshaft boot showing signs of damage (cracking)
Shot showing subframe bushing and outer trailing arm bushing
Closeup of subframe bushing showing tear along the middle
Subframe bushing removed from subframe
Picture of rear exhaust section and shocks (note also the two original barrel springs beside the muffler)
New subframe bushing installed (complete suspension is now back under the car)
Shot showing both new subframe bushing and new trailing arm bushing
New rear spring and shock installed (driver's side)
Same area, taken from the inside
Rear spring and shock, passenger side
Billet aluminum rear shock mount
Closeup of rear spring
Lowered rear end
Difference between front and rear (just before starting work on the front suspension)
Another shot showing the gap between the stock 14" wheel and the front fender
Last but not least, here are a couple of shots showing how filthy the car got sitting on jackstands for weeks upon weeks:
